The US is experiencing a drop-out crisis. Every 29 seconds an American youth drops out of high
school – that's 7,000 young people per day or 1.2 million each year. One-third of all high school
students, and nearly half of all African American and Latino youth, do not graduate. More
importantly, over 80% of young people say they would not have dropped out “if school were more
relevant to real life”. Success University meets that need, providing life-relevant learning that
engages young people and keeps them in school. We show students why math, writing, reading and
research skills are important, using a hands-on approach that incorporates all of these while
strengthening character and life skills during the development of an effective business. Success
University helps young people see their futures – including the importance of graduating high school
– in a different, more positive way.
By combining my entrepreneurial background with my desire to positively impact urban teens, I’ve
discovered that when young people from urban communities are given the opportunity to learn about
entrepreneurship, their innate "street smarts" easily develop into "academic smarts" and "business
smarts." Through entrepreneurship, young people discover that what they are learning in the
classroom is relevant to the real world. Our mission is to provide programs that inspire young people
from urban communities to stay in school, to recognize business opportunities and to plan for
successful futures.
At a moment of both educational crisis and economic uncertainty, Urban Entrepreneur is providing
solutions through Success University. Our nation’s top leaders and thinkers have acknowledged the
relevance and importance of entrepreneurship as an educational and economic remedy, making the
need for the Success University Teen Entrepreneurship Program more evident than ever.
Course Overview
Introduction to Entrepreneurship
The intro to entrepreneurship class is taught by Mr. Anderson and includes the 13 principles of Think
and Grow Rich along with a few additional nuggets obtained by experiences with Fran Tarkenton, Dr.
Dennis Kimbro, Holton Buggs, John Maxwell and Paul Pilzer.
Understanding and writing a Business Plan
This course is based on 2 parts. The 1st is the importance and need for a Business Plan, the 2nd part is
based on writing a Business Plan.

the experiences that they need in order for them to feel like the world is within their
reach. While some kids may have the talent and the potential to conquer the world,
they are sometimes stifled by the harshness of their realities and the innumerable
challenges they face.
Urban Entrepreneur believe that our youth can better meet those challenges by using
the principles of personal development enhancing shills like goal setting, goal
achievement, dream building, self-motivation, self-efficacy and time management all
contributing to creating a high self-esteem and sense of purpose. Success University was
founded to provide urban teenagers with quality education in the areas of personal
development, financial literacy and entrepreneurship through practical application as
opposed to theoretic lecture. Our goal is to meet the students where they are,
connect with them on a personal level and assist them in their journey from the youth
of today to the achievers and leaders of tomorrow.
